After completing the Sandbox, where you gain familiarity with the segmenting tools and basic techniques, you will progress to the core of your segmenting training in the Academy Levels.
This course is divided into five levels, each progressively building upon the previous one to enhance your proficiency. Below is an introduction to each level, outlining the focus areas and the skills you will develop. Please note that Segging Academy is currently in a transitional stage as it adapts to the current state of segmenting on Viki. As a result, your experience may differ slightly from the descriptions provided during this period of change.
Level 1: Foundation of Segmenting
FOCUS: Basic Skills in Creating and Adjusting Well-Timed Segments
In this introductory level, you will continue to learn the fundamental skills necessary for creating and adjusting segments. By the end of this level, you should be more comfortable using the timer tools and better understand how to create accurate and synchronized segments.
Level 2: Adjusting English Presubs in Kdrama
FOCUS: Adjusting English Presubs in Korean Dramas
This level focuses on working with pre-subtitled (presubbed) content in Korean dramas. You will practice adjusting timings and segment extensions while gaining a basic understanding of the unique aspects of Korean projects. Key learning points include recognizing common interjections and identifying cues for sentence endings, which help determine where to split segments if necessary.
Level 3: Adjusting and Combining English Presubs in Cdrama
FOCUS: Adjusting and Combining English Presubs in Chinese Dramas
At this level, you will advance to adjusting and combining English presubbed segments in Chinese dramas. You'll learn to recognize when segments need to be combined or split, and how to make those decisions. Additionally, you'll gain basic knowledge about the unique characteristics of Mandarin, including common interjections and cues for segment breaks such as sentence endings and conjunctions.
Level 4: Adjusting and Combining Presubs Done in Two Languages
FOCUS: Adjusting and Combining Presubs in Multiple Languages
This level introduces the complexity of working with presubbed content in more than one language, specifically English and Portuguese. You will continue to refine your timing, adjusting, combining, and splitting skills. The focus will be on understanding the nuances of working with multilingual presubbed segments.
LEVEL 5: Final Review of All Skills
FOCUS: Comprehensive Review and Preparation for Graduation
In the final instructional level, you will review all the skills learned throughout the course. This includes timing, extensions, managing gaps, and making decisions about splitting or combining segments. The aim is to ensure you are thoroughly prepared to work with presubbed content in multiple languages and ready for the final graduation assessment.
