Looking for volunteer opportunities on Viki but not sure where to start? The following list includes a few ways to find volunteer projects. Remember, you should always receive permission from the Channel Manager or Moderator prior to working on a project.
Before subtitling your first project, you may want to participate in one of the NSSA Subbing Academies and/or review a subbing guide. You will need to be proficient in both English and your language of interest because using an online translator is a violation of Viki’s guidelines. New editors may need to have previous writing or editing experience.
To segment in channels as a newcomer, we recommend that you first complete the NSSA Segging Academy.
In addition to segmenting and subtitling, there are a number of other ways to volunteer on Viki. To learn more, check out the Channel Roles Guide.
Once you are ready to volunteer, you can try these options to find a project:
1. Browse the Project Finder – In the Project Finder, you can sort projects by type of contribution you would like to provide (as a segmenter, subtitler, or channel manager), channel genre, and country.

Important Project Finder Notes:
(1) When you find a project you are interested in joining, click “Apply” to send a request to the manager or moderator of the channel. Complete the application, providing details about your abilities to have the best chance at being accepted onto the team.
(2) Not all channels listed in the Project Finder are actually searching for team members. You may wish to visit the Contributor’s Wall of the channel to see if the team is closed or recruiting. To access the Contributor’s Wall, go to the channel page, click "Subtitle team," and then scroll past "Meet the team." The team creates the Contributor’s Wall and will typically include a team table that lists the current team and whether any positions are recruiting.

2. Visit the Project Board in the Discussions Forum – Here, Channel Managers and Moderators post recruitment messages for their projects, and you can offer to join their teams. See popular threads including:
3. Join the NSSA Discord – If you are an NSSA graduate, be sure to join the official NSSA Discord, where contributors often share projects that are available. Not a member of the Discord server yet? Ask an NSSA Channel Manager or Moderator for an invite!
4. Be invited to the team directly – The more you volunteer and get to know the community, the more likely you are to receive team invites from Channel Managers or Moderators through private message (PM).
We hope this guide will be helpful to you as you learn to navigate Viki. Have fun volunteering!
