The best part about volunteering on Viki is making dramas and shows accessible to people all over the world who wouldn’t be able to understand them otherwise. It’s incredibly satisfying to see that your work actually helps viewers enjoy their favorite series and immerse themselves in different cultures.
Plus, it’s a great way to improve translation skills, collaborate with a team, and connect with passionate people who share the same vibe. You also get better at working quickly and accurately, handling cultural references, and even discovering new expressions you didn’t know before. And when you see comments from grateful viewers or people saying they loved an episode thanks to your work, it’s super motivating and makes you want to keep going. It’s truly rewarding to be part of a community that helps make content accessible to everyone !
As a volunteer, it's a pleasure to work on Viki's projects and, above all, to meet incredible new people in this community ! ❤️

The most rewarding part of being a volunteer on Viki? Oh, where do I even start? 😄
First off, it's all about the amazing community. Working alongside people from all over the world who share a passion for dramas and entertainment is just incredible. It's like having a massive, multicultural family that you can always count on for support and laughter.
Then there's the satisfaction of knowing you're making a difference. Whether it's helping to translate a show or moderating a discussion, every little bit counts. Seeing fans enjoy and appreciate the content you've contributed to is such a fulfilling feeling. It's like giving a gift that keeps on giving!
And let's not forget the personal growth. Volunteering on Viki has helped me improve my language skills, learn about different cultures, and even develop a few new ones (like the art of subtitling!). It's a fantastic way to challenge yourself and grow, all while having a blast.
So, in a nutshell, the community, the impact, and the personal growth are the top reasons why volunteering on Viki is so rewarding. Plus, it's a ton of fun!

The best part being a volunteer? That's a tough question. 🤔 😅
I think it's the fact that contributing to Viki through my roles (Sensei, Segmenter, GE, Greek moderator), I do something that benefits many people. I can help fellow contributors as part of the segmenting or the English team. Working as a translator, I give the opportunity to Greek viewers to enjoy the fun and wonderful world of Asian entertainment.
I believe I learnt a lot of things about the Korean and Chinese culture through Viki. Contributing isn't just a "job," it's an experience to learn, enjoy and broaden your horizons. You get to know people that share your passion. I'm happy and honored to say that through all my years in Viki I met great people who welcomed, helped, encouraged and gave me feedback. I'd be forever grateful to all of them.
Viki may have some problems, but its core is one of the best things I came across. Probably why I'm still here since 2013.

I think that to be volunteer isn't just a way to fill up your day (as some people think). It's a real job, with responsibilities, even we have no salary, it's important to be serious in what we do.
Since I start doing that, I've learned so much about Asiatics cultures, I've had so much fun translating that I've decided to have a long trip in Asia, visiting different countries.
It's a satisfaction when you read a nice feedback, this means that your work is appreciated, that your efforts are not wasted, that people can open their mind to others and accept them as they are. The world is amazing as it is, with so much differences and so many cultures and traditions. Translating for Wiki is the best way to let people learn about those cultures.
The Wiki's community is one of the richest community on the net: people from all over the world join together to work on the same project. What a great concept !!! If other people were so opened mind, bad things wont happens, for sure.
Anyway, I really hope that Wiki will always need volunteers because we will always be there to help. 🫶

You have heard me natter on and on about falling in love with dramas, discovering my romantic side, wanting to be an active part of the Viki community, and connecting more deeply with the world of Asian shows.
Apart from the stories, as an avid reader, I'm a sucker for good stories; a significant part of this attraction has been the male leads in these dramas. I fell in love with those handsome men portraying unforgettable characters. I blame Dramas, but there's no accounting for passion, sparks, or timing—things just happen. Choices are made, and we often find ourselves inexplicably drawn to a certain actor or character, overwhelmed by feelings that elevate us to joyous heights.
A friend believes that we are drawn to those with the opposite look - thus, since I am blonde and green-eyed, I am drawn to men with black hair and eyes. So I wonder why, specifically, these Asian men? Because dark-haired men are everywhere. Maybe it is more about the Far East's culture, traditions, and way of life. Each country has its own character; much to love and some flaws too. Perhaps the answer to my question is simply that I am drawn to the countries in themselves and lured to these men being the embodiment of all the mystery of the Far East. The possibilities are endless, but naturally, I always feel the need to explore what truly captures my attention.
After joining the community, I found my niche in subbing and editing from English to Spanish. Those are just as addictive as watching dramas.
Researching is one of the aspects of my real-life job that I enjoy most. I could channel this passion into my volunteer work here. I often navigate idioms, urban expressions, or phrases. I enjoy translating by checking facts in blogs, dictionaries, and "aunty" Google. Those are the reasons, I mostly prefer editing or adjudicated subbing. Finally, I need to add that scripts can help, but no script can replace the passion of the human spirit.

Wow, that's a tricky question actually. Indeed, there are so many rewarding parts in being a volunteer on Viki. 🤔
- At first, I found it rewarding as we are given the opportunity to give accesss to Asian dramas & films to everybody around the world, or at least to the ones understanding our native language while giving them the opportunity to discover Asian culture at the same time.☺️
- Next, I had the opportunity to rediscover my own language and to improve the way I use it when I subtitle. I've found it really rewarding to find the right word or expression depending on the context and to try to improve my work as subtitler thanks to the advices I've been lucky to receive. 🤗
- At the same time, it is quite rewarding too to be abble to work and share our passion of Asian dramas with many people from all around the world.
- Finally, the team work is really rewarding. Working together, alongside, trying to find a better expression here, sharing points of view, listening to eachother, encouraging eachother, improving together. It is rewarding, really. 🤩
For me, there are so many rewarding sides in volunteering on Viki that it is hard to quote only one.

From 2011 to 2016 I watched Korean TV shows alone, having no one to comment with and not being able to share with anyone how much I liked them. In 2016 I joined Viki looking for a series, not knowing what was going on on this site. What followed was a journey into the world of Asian dramas with other people from all over the world who share the same passion as me. The most rewarding aspect was the fact that I discovered new people, new friends, new shows other than the Korean ones and through my translations I brought some joy to those who don't know English, but love these shows. When I translate on Viki I relax and get away from everyday life and what could be more rewarding than all this?

The most rewarding part is that I have an activity in my free time that at the end of the day brings me relaxation and a good time. Without this, I wouldn't be able to be daily on Vki and be so active. Actually, this is my second longest hobby after playing Summoners War for almost 9 years, and I mention this because I'm usually the type of person who gets bored quite easily and often with things and activities. For example, I change my phone wallpapers and case once in a few days 🤣 . So, yeah, the fact that this activity still gives me the satisfaction I need in my free time means that being on Viki is something rewarding. I don't know about others, but I always feel more rewarded by things and situations that don't bring me any material benefits or rewards, so maybe that's why I'm still on Viki; there must be a connection in terms of feelings in the first place.
Of course, I can also add the people I work with. Since I always worked in a team, it's for sure a must to have the right people around you and not to only support you but also to pull your ear when you're on the wrong path 😂 .
To conclude, it's not just one thing but there is a sum of many big and little things that make the entire Viki experience a rewarding one, with the personal satisfaction being in the first place on the list.
Every contribution, no matter how big or small, helps bring stories to life for viewers around the world. What do you find most rewarding about being a Viki volunteer? Share your thoughts in the comments below, we’d love to hear your experience! 💜✨
